Clive Woodbridge is a freelance journalist with over 30 years experience. He has been the Deputy Editor of Spice Business since its inception and in that time has written extensively about developments in the curry industry. He has been a judge for the British Curry Awards from Year One and has carried out a number of visits to nominated restaurants in recent years. Clive is also a local councillor and is currently chairman of the ruling Residents Association group on Epsom & Ewell Borough Council.
Robert W Walton MBE
Robert Walton has been an inspirational board member of the Restaurant Association of Great Britain for 20 years, holding the position of Vice Chairman and Chairman, before becoming President of the organisation. Robert is a trustee of Hospitality Action, a life patron of Springboard UK, Chairman of Young Chef Young Waiter and Chairman of fundraising for the National Restaurateurs Dinner. Robert was awarded an MBE for his services to the Hospitality Industry in 2007.
Robert is passionate about the world of hospitality and does all he can in assisting and promoting the industry as a vocation to school leavers and college graduates.
After spells with leading wine trader Lawlers’ Ltd. and London-based wine supplier Michael Morgan Ltd, which included dealing with Michelin-starred restaurants. Charlie continues to travel the world in search of interesting wines, from quality wine makers, He has brought a highly valuable and different perspective to the judging panel.
Radio and TV host James Whale is a well-known media personality, who has worked across national, regional and local radio and is a familiar face on terrestrial and satellite television across the UK. He currently hosts the Drivetime show for London’s leading talk station, LBC Radio, and is a self-confessed ‘curryholic’. Together with his wife Melinda, James regularly visits spice restaurants and is a great supporter of the industry. He is also heavily involved with his own charity, the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer. This October the charity hosted a highly successful Britain’s Biggest Curry Party raising much needed funds for this deserving cause.
Former Chef and Commander Vice Conseiller Culiniaire of the Confrérie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, Daniel Steck now holds the office responsible for promoting and setting international standards. He is a connoisseur of fine cuisine, with a wealth of experience based on a long career in the hospitality industry. Asian foods are a particular favourite and Daniel brings a huge amount of knowledge to the judging process.
Olivier Renard has been in hotel management in London for over twenty years after moving from France and America. He is currently managing director of a consultancy company providing expert advice to independent hotels. Olivier is also actively involved with a number of hospitality schools, helping students find placements in London. He is a great believer in the important link between the industry and the development of our future chefs. Olivier has a keen interest in Asian food and is a member of l’Association Culinaire Francaise in Great Britain.
S B Faruk, M.Sc, FRSPH
A well known businessman in Tower Hamlets Mr Faruk opened Employment Bureau Shahnan in 1983 to meet a need to recruit to fill job vacancies within the Bangladeshi catering Industry. Since then he has helped the industry not only in terms of job placements but also providing in-house food hygiene and health and safety training to thousands of restaurants across the country. Countless food handlers have benefited from this training.
Mr. Faruk is a Director and former Chairman of British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce.
